As architectural practices shift from building new to transforming the buildings that are already there, architects need to know the legal framework and administrative regulations as well as the planning principles and management guidelines regarding the existing building stock.

Also, basic building-cultural understanding and modes of cooperation are of pivotal importance in every successful project. In response, this course gives an intensive introduction to the terms and conditions, management and practices of sustainable building culture and architectural heritage as seen in a Danish context. A compendium in the form of a list of links to relevant websites will be distributed before the beginning of the course.

Learning outcome

The course gives a basic introduction to the legal framework, terms and conditions as well as to the overall management principles and practical architectural strategies including:

  • basic knowledge of Danish building culture and architectural heritage principles and concepts
  • basic theoretical skills understanding of Danish building culture and architectural heritage
  • basic competences in strategic thinking regarding Danish building culture and architectural heritage
  • basic assessment and case analyses
  • theoretical positions

Participants

The course is aimed at English speaking architects, engineers or construction managers working in the field of cultural heritage, transformation and conservation at private design studios, in organisations and consulting firms, as well as in public institutions, administrations, municipalities etc. in Denmark.

The common ground is an interest in sustainable building culture and architectural heritage as seen in a Danish context.

English-speaking skills at an intermediate user level is expected.

Cancellation Policy

Cancellations must be submitted in writing to the course secretariat.
Cancellations made before the registration deadline are free of charge.
For cancellations made after the registration deadline, 50% of the course fee will be charged.
For cancellations made later than 3 working days before the course start, the full course fee will be charged.
If a registered participant is unable to attend, a substitute participant may be sent instead.

The right to make changes is reserved.
