SquareOne is a newly founded architecture studio based in Copenhagen and operating internationally. It was founded in 2015 by architect Kostas Poulopoulos, who has obtained considerable international experience close to Kengo Kuma Architects, Henning Larsen Architects (as Lead Design Architect) and BIG (as Senior Architect) before setting up shop.
During his tenure as Lead Designer at HLA, Kostas was responsible, among others, for the competition proposals and concept development of Siemens HQ in Munich, Nordea HQ in Copenhagen, Novo Nordisk HQ in Bagsværd, the Frankfurt School of Finance and Management and other buildings, currently in operation or under construction.
SquareOne develops strategically and artistically sound architecture, which provides crystal clear yet rich answers to the brief. We transform no-nonsense strategies into imaginative designs; we are -no doubt- solution oriented, but we consider this a given; there is no grace in big ideas if they are not solved. But we know that good enough is not good enough. We won’t settle with design for well-being; we go for thriving, and we know this means both intellectually and emotionally. We therefore pursue an architecture that is intellectually inspiring and emotionally affectionate.
We are independent conceptualizers and producers, but at same time love to co-develop projects with other companies : this is in fact how we learn new things and sharpen our skills.

Extension of one-family house in Amager.
The project resolves the creation of a second floor by repeating the roof and facade form of the DNA-setting original volume.
In order to resolve the height restriction challenge along the north edge, the house folds inwards to create a dramatic north-facing skylight along the entire length of the house.
